The Florida High School Activities Association has voted to increase playoff roster sizes and adopt Max Preps rankings system for playoff seedings while expanding number of teams who will make the regional playoff field.
What does this mean? Overall we will have more teams and more players able to participate in the excitement of the high school post season. It is a win win for the growth of lacrosse in Florida!
The FHSAA Board of Directors approved increasing the state series roster size for boys & girls lacrosse to 35-players, starting with the 2022 sport season. Additionally, the FHSAA Board approved adding the sport of boys & girls lacrosse to use the same ranking system and playoff structure as all other team sports.
What this change means, starting with the 2022 sport season:
- The sport will not have a required district schedule during the regular season.
- All teams in the district will qualify for the district tournament.
- The FHSAA Power Rankings will seed the district & regional tournaments.
- The district champions will automatically advance to the regional tournament as one of the top four seeds in each region (based on rankings) and the next 4 highest ranked teams in each region will advance to the regional tournament as seeds 5-8.
In addition, with this change, an additional round will be added to the regional tournament to accommodate the extra teams.
